Newspapers- What I have learnt about newsworthiness
Recently, I have learnt in class about newsworthiness. Newsworthiness is about the factor of how an article in the newspapers is interesting enough to be reported as news. There are altogether 5 different types of newspapers, national, regional, local, tabloid and broadsheet. After comparing the 5 different types, I have come up with the analogy about the different types of newspapers.
1. National- It contains some national and international news, but it focuses on news relating to a specific area of the country.
2. Regional- It cotains some national and international news, but focuses on fairly local news topics in general. It is usually based around towns or cities.
3. Local- It contains news which covers across the whole country, together with some international news.
4. Tabloid- It contains most national and international news, but is less wordy and has a simpler vocabulary as well. It is also more consumer-based and contains some gossip news, usually in a less formal tone.
5. Broadsheet- It contains most national and international news, but is more serious and factual. It also uses a more complex vocabulary, making use of more bombastic words. It contains many major international news as well, and is in a very formal tone.
